Meet the tutor

Hello, I’m Tanya - founder of Joseph Tutors and a qualified primary teacher with 18 years of experience teaching children from Reception to Year 6.

Throughout my career across South Africa, Spain and the UK, I have worked in diverse educational settings, supporting hundreds of children in developing strong reading and writing foundations.

Again and again, I saw the same pattern: children who were capable, yet hesitant. Skilled, yet unsure of themselves.

That understanding shaped the way I teach.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor of Primary Education (First Class Honours)
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), graded ‘Outstanding’
• CELTA qualification with Distinction
• Diploma in Psychology
• PSHE Leadership experience
• Enhanced DBS certified

Why I Created Joseph Tutors

After many years in busy classrooms, I recognised that even strong learners could struggle when confidence was quietly affected by pressure.

I wanted to create a calmer space.

Joseph Tutors was built to provide expert English tuition in Purley within small, thoughtfully structured groups where children feel supported, challenged and safe to grow.

My Teaching Philosophy
